Winter has come early for most of us and if you are like me you are already looking at pictures of a nice sandy beach and wishing you were there!! I have JUST the place. If you are looking for a “no worry, no hurry” destination Gulf County Florida is one spot for the ages.
Winter in GCFL is an equal mix of peaceful solitude and friendly camaraderie. Memories aren’t always made from big, fancy productions. Instead, connect over the small, happy accidents. This will definitely be a trip you and your family will remember for many years to come and a place you’ll want to come back to year after year.
It has 43 miles of natural shoreline where water surrounds, they don’t have high-rises or busy highways and never will. They have white-sand beaches facing westward into spectacular sunsets – on the Gulf of Mexico and St. Joseph Bay. There are beckoning bayous, unexpected wildlife encounters and the mysterious Dead Lakes. You can keep busy with the seaside bike trails, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and snorkeling during the day and gather around and have bonfires on the beach in the evenings.
If romance is what you are looking for Cape San Blas, is a beautiful white sand peninsula, has amazing westward-facing beaches, so the sunsets are spectacular. In fact, GCFL (Gulf County, Florida) is known as #championofsunsets. Fish off a pier or with a charter captain at the tip of the Cape. Then, learn how to cook your catch that night. Quietly kayak on the Dead Lakes and be amazed at what you’ll find around the next Cypress tree. Hike through St. Joseph Peninsula State Park and see pristine white sand dunes as tall as a house. Every moment is a new discovery.
Your pets are even welcome so don’t waste money boarding them! They will have a great time. Leashed pets are welcome on the beach at all times and most rental homes will throw out the red carpet for our furry friends! Gulf County Florida beaches are consistently ranked in the top ten US beaches to bring your pets on vacation. The most recent was on PetVR.com
During January through March, GCFL brings everyone together by hosting get-togethers big and small. Take a sunset cruise from Port St. Joe Marina with a handful of other nature lovers. Or, visit the GCFL Welcome Center for a cocktail-hour reception where you’ll meet other winter guests and make lifelong friends. The calendar of events is always changing so be sure to check out the Winter Fun Events and see the small town hospitality in action!
